Calligram: Kiana Andreoli
For my calligram, people may be confused on why I decided to design a bowl of noodle soup. This idea came across naturally to me when I was asked to create an illustration that represented what I wanted for my future. I mainly hope that in 20 years, I am still as connected to my family and my culture as I am today. This idea is represented through my illustration because this bowl of soup is a Vietnamese bowl that my family and I eat as a tradition. Before my grandmother passed, this bowl of soup with her was always a feeling of home. She was a big deciding factor on my choice for this project.
Today, we carry on this meal and I hope that in 20 years, my children are living with this tradition as well. My overall vision for this project was to use the Pho as a symbol for my culture and the cultured lifestyle I was gifted. I also wanted it to represent my grandmother as she is the reason that my family has this tradition. I want to make sure that my kids know exactly who she was and what she has done for my family and I, and I think this project was a great way to display these feelings. Most importantly, I don't want to lose one of the biggest parts of me as time passes by. I want to make sure that I keep a strong connection between the people that are most important to me, and the culture that has made me who I truly am.
